Waterproofing Tile Installation

Waterproofing Tile Installation: If you are installing tiles in a bathroom whether it is in the shower stall, bathtub or the walls you will definitely need to use a waterproof tile membrane for your project.

There are many different manufacturers of waterproof tile membranes so before you decide you should do some research to get yourself some knowledge of the various types of waterproof membranes that are available and what people are saying about them.

Installing a waterproof tile membrane is necessary to keep water from seeping into the walls behind the tiles or onto the sub-floors underneath the cement backer board.

Before you begin you will need to ensure that the area is clean and all dust and grime have been removed. Sweep of and vacuum the area and if there are any imperfections like dips or sinks in the surface you will have to fill these in using some floor leveling compound.

All tile installation projects requires that the surface to be tiled should be clean and level, in order for you to get a smooth installation. You will have to install your waterproof tile membrane over the subfloor before you can begin your tile installation.

Depending on the type of waterproof membrane that you choose you will have to install these according to the manufacturers instructions, all waterproof membranes come with manufacturer's instructions which are quite simple for you to follow.

Some waterproofing membranes have to be cut and bonded together while others are in the form of a continuous roll which you just simply roll onto the surface accordingly and seal at the end of the installation.

This roll out membrane is much preferred above the other types of waterproof membrane, because there is less joining in your waterproof tile installation, and it is much easier to use.

Another important fact to take into consideration before starting your waterproofing tile installation, is the thickness and subtleness of the waterproof membrane that you choose.

Some waterproof membranes are made from plastic that is hard to conform to the position that you want them to be. In other words when you try to fold the waterproof membrane in a certain position it tends to want to turn back to the position that it was in.

But there are waterproof membranes that are made of such soft plastic that they are able to be positioned in any way that you require and they will stay in that position no matter what.
