Solar Power: Technology has changed so much over the years, it’s ironic how far we’ve strayed from nature only to come right back to it for our answers. Solar power is a perfect example of this.

We started out using natural light which means we get everything we need done before the sun set, then we learned to harness fire and then followed fossil fuels that paved the way for electricity as we know it. But with the passage of time and the depletion of resources, we have come full circle and started looking towards nature once more for help to power our very lives. Enter solar power.

Solar power is the technology obtaining usable energy from the light of the Sun. in recent times we have really found all sorts of ways to harness the power and energy of the sun to make it work for us, so it’s no surprise that these days you can find many items that are solar powered, from watches to entire cars and many people even choose to have their homes powered by the energy from the sun!

Electricity is something that we can’t possibly live without today, in fact, our entire lives and livelihood depends on the existence of energy because it is this same energy that literally and figuratively powers the wheels of society and keeps them turning.

Because of electricity humankind as a race has been able to really thrive and transform from a once subsistence way of life into a complex, thriving machine. But early on we faced a problem with fuels that were used to generate electricity; we knew that at some point these fuels would run out.

Over the years we have also ventured into other areas of generating electricity by tampering with various other sources.

Water was a good option and still is and generating electricity by this hydroelectric means works well but still has its drawbacks. For instance it requires a vast area of land with a ready supply of water and this isn’t always feasible, especially in vast desert areas as in States like Nevada in the U.S. Enter the sun.

Forest, ice, snow or desert the sun is everywhere. It reaches into every crevice of the earth and because of this using the sun as a focal energy source is very feasible.

Solar power technology is still a work in progress and can still get a tad pricey, is not only a reliable source of energy but it is also 100% environmently friendly which is something that fossil fuels and it’s emissions are not.

This was also the case with hydroelectricity since heated water was pumped back into reserves and this is detrimental to aquatic life.

Because solar power uses the power of the sun to power things we normally use electric power for, we are spared a lot of the complications of electric power. The few drawbacks of solar power include the ability of solar panels to trap enough light energy to power large areas and the cost effectiveness of producing these panels since they can get very expensive.

But as technology continues to develop and evolve it will come as no surprise to see solar power powering entire cities as opposed to the relatively small scale it is used on today.

Solar power truly is an excellent alternative to the methods we have been using to power our way of life. Generating electricity using solar energy decreases our use of fuel from fossil, which in turn reduces significantly greenhouse gas emissions and the effects of pollution and by moving towards solar power we can put up a good fight against global warming, thus reducing our dependence on sources of foreign energy.
