Roofs that are covered by trees overhang where there is not much sunlight coming through are the most prone to moss and algae growth, because of the humidity that is caused by the lack of exposure to sunlight to your roof.
Moss on your roof can be considered a very dangerous situation as if it is left unattended for a long period in will definitely start to deteriorate your roof.
Before you do anything you will have to start by cleaning your roof of any debris such as leaves, twigs etc.
Use a hose and wash your roof but be sure that you hose direct the hose so that the water will flow down off the roof and not get under the roofing.
Once all the initial leaves etc, have been washed off the roof, you will have to use a cleaner such as oxygen bleach to clean the excess build up of moss and algae stains form your roof.
Mix the oxygen bleach according to the directions and then apply it to the roof, leaving it on for around half an hour.
After the oxygen bleach has been fully saturated into the roof you can use a yard broom to scrub the moss and algae build up away, and then was it down properly with the hose.
When you are satisfied that the roof has been properly cleaned, you will have to install some copper or zinc strips which are very helpful in the prevention of re-growth of moss, and algae from spreading on your roof.
Install the copper or zinc strips at the very crest of the roof so that every time it rains tiny amounts of copped/zinc will be scattered all over the roof.
