Removing Grout

Long ago removing grout used to be a very tedious job, but now with the help of modern tools such as the Grout Getter carbide tipped scrapers, a saw and Dremel or a similar rotary tool, you will be able to accomplish this job of removing grout much easier and it works faster as these tools stay sharp for a very long time.

Bear in mind that each tool works differently and you will have to switch between tools as grout joints get narrower or wider.

You may also need to have a utility knife handy to get to those tight corners where the grout cutter cannot reach.

Also remember to wear safety gear such as safety glasses, gloves and dust mask.

Sanded Tile Grout For Removing Grout : Use a Grout Getter with a Triangle Blade.

Non Sanded Tile Grout For Removing Grout : Use a Grout Getter with a Diamond Blade. For removing grout, start cutting into the joint slowly, until you reach the bottom of the joint, then increase the speed of the saw and pull backwards, as you reach the bottom of the joint.

Be very careful as you approach a grout intersection, as some tiles may be out of alignment and you might chip the corners of the tiles and damage them.

Remove the grout about 1/8 of an inch or more below the top edge of the tile, so as to make room for the new grout.

Be sure and clean all areas thoroughly before you begin the re-grouting process.
