Locating Roof leaks: The most common places that roofs have been know to leak are valleys or low spots in the roof, chimney, plumbing, vent flashing, missing shingles, etc.
When your roofing starts to leak the first sign you will see is a wet circular spot on your ceiling tile or water at the corner of a room because the roof is leaking at the corner and this is allowing the water to drain off down the corner of the wall onto the floor.
Searching for the leaks can be a tedious task because even though the water may be seeping through the corner of the room and dripping down the wall the source of the water can be coming from any part of the roofing.
You will have to do some backtracking in order to locate where the leak is originating from. If the roofing is leaking onto the wall at the corner you will probably have to remove the top tiling in order to gain access to the source of the leaks.
If you discover that your ceiling has a water stain there can be two possibilities either you have a leak in your roofing, or you have a condensation problem.
Condensation stains are usually found on ceiling panels close to an exterior wall, usually in the corner of the wall. These will be in the shape of several small circles of staining and are usually of different sizes and shapes with white centers.
Stains from rain leaks are usually found anywhere on your ceiling, they can be surrounding a ceiling fixture, around a ventilation pipe or near an exterior wall. These stains are concentric rings that get lighter as they move outward, with the center stain being a darker color as it is usually the oldest stain.
Each time your roofing leaks it makes another ring around the dark circle. Sometime you might look for days and just can't locate the leaks; well at this point your only alternative would be to re coat your roofing.
You will have to clean it properly and make sure it is completely dry and then apply a water proof roofing coating on the entire roof.
