Choosing the right kitchen curtains is dependent on your already existing interior décor. It may sound too easy to be true, but it's no joke. Perhaps the most important factor that must be taken into consideration when choosing the right kitchen curtains is the colour of the fabric that the curtain is made out of.
The colour of the curtain should match the colours of the furnishings. It is amazing sometimes to see how something as simple as the wrong colour could throw an entire room off its orbit and make everything look out of place.
But the right colours blended and meshed well together could make every individual furnishing compliment each other and cause the entire décor to flow effortlessly.
This is, in part, what is known as Feng Shui, an ancient Chinese art form of using the flow of energy in a room to add sensation and mood to a space.
It's that relaxing or intriguing feeling that you get when you walk into a seemingly well put together room. Interior decorators know this art form well, and they say matching kitchen curtains is imperative to the overall feel of a room.
In keeping with the idea of general flow of the kitchen, patterns are important. For instance, many people tend to think that the kitchen is a very homely place therefore any fabric found therein, e.g. curtains, mittens, pot holders etc, must be brightly coloured and riddled with designs of vegetables, fruit, chickens and flowers.
This is definitely not definitive! Many modern kitchens tend to be very futuristic and sharp looking with chrome goose neck faucets and granite countertops.
In such a kitchen for instance, brightly coloured curtains with big loopy fruit baskets really could throw the entire vibe of the kitchen off because they are conflicting themes.
Rather, if your kitchen is more modern in appearance with many futuristic appliances it is probably best to go with soft but solid patterned curtains instead of trying to make an otherwise modern kitchen into a country style farmhouse.
Apart from the overall décor of the kitchen, there are a couple other factors to take into consideration when choosing the right kitchen curtains. The first is the type of fabric or material that the curtain is made out of.
Now there are many various fabric on the market and many of then would go perfectly in the kitchen, but the material that some of these curtains are made out of would probably be better off elsewhere. So try choosing curtains that are made out of light but durable and especially non-flammable materials.
It is very important to choose kitchen curtains that are non-flammable. Other than that, curtains that are relatively stain resistant, especially to soot and smoke, and curtains that can be cleaned easily are also good factors to bear in mind since cooking, washing and the typical uses of any kitchen tend to make countertops, appliances and curtains, greasy, stick from condensation and dark and dull in appearance after a while, and can be very difficult to restore some materials to its original look.
Another factor to bear in mind is the length of kitchen curtains. Shorter curtains are always better in the kitchen since they are less likely to be in the way when cooking or washing.
Kitchen curtains that are too long pose very serious fire hazards and can be quite bothersome when moving about the kitchen. Now the length of kitchen curtain that will be considered long or short will be dependent of the various measurements of windows, so be sure to know how large your window so that you will be able to figure out what is the right length for your kitchen.
