Installing Ceramic Tile

Installing ceramic tiles is not such a big deal, as long as you have the proper tools such as a diamond wet saw to help you cut your tiles accurately.

Because ceramic wall tiles are much smaller that ceramic floor tiles, you will need to purchase more tiles for your walls than you would if you were installing ceramic floor tiles.

Also when installing ceramic wall tiles you will need to use non-sanded grout, sanded grout is used for ceramic floor tile installation. In both wall and floor tile installation you will have to measure the length and width of the area to determine how many tiles you would need.

Remember that ceramic tiles must be installed on an even surface. Ensure that the area is clean of dust, wipe it with a wet cloth and then dry the area properly.

If there are any uneven areas on your wall you can fill these in with some putty to level it off and when it has properly dried then you can begin your ceramic tile installation.

Use a vacuum to remove any excess dirt and dust not only on the area that you are going to install your tiles but on all the surrounding areas as well.

You don't want unnecessary dust blowing from another part of the room onto the clean surface that you are installing your ceramic tiles.

Before your begin make sure that you have all your materials and tools readily available. When purchasing your ceramic tiles you should purchase some extra tiles in case of emergency, such as a tile getting broken or cracked.

These extra tiles can come in handy in the event that some time in the future you should need to replace a cracked or broken tile, as sometimes you might not be able to get the exact color tile and this can be a problem.

When installing ceramic tiles in the bathroom remember to measure around the toilet seat, faucet, bathtub, door areas and also areas such as electrical fitting and light switches.

All these areas have to be taken into account if you want to get the best results in your ceramic tile installation.

On a final note ceramic tiles can develop cracks when they shift so the best way to prevent this from happening is to have a solid backer-board or sub-floor installed when you are doing your ceramic tile installation.

Also when installing your grout try and get it as far down into the grout lines as possible as cracked or loose grout can also cause your ceramic tiles to shift and crack.
