History Of The French Drain Design

The French drain design was invented in Concord by a farmer / judge by the name of Henry French (hence the name).

He got his idea through careful observation and a keen eye for observing the way the water was flowing in brooks and streams around his home and surrounding areas.

Mr. French was constantly suffering from flooding and was always looking for ways to keep the flooding at bay, until finally he came up with a brilliant idea of how to make sure that the water would run in the direction he wanted and so he devised this great concept which is now known as the French drain design.

The main reason that most people install a French drain is to remove unwanted water away from their homes. This French drain design is usually installed nearer to the perimeter of a building at the lowest levels where standing water is usually found. It is also possible to install a French drain design starting in your basement crawlspace and ending up at a point where the water will not be able to flow back towards your house.

French drain design is designed to slope downwards and if your landscape slopes upward along the path of the French drain you will have to dig deeper trenches in order to allow the water to flow downwards.

French drain design extract water that is collected in the drainage pipes on the outside but they can also be installed inside the house were they are used to channel water away from the house.
