French doors, deriving its name from a popular French design, is two adjoining doors or panels that hang from hinges at the left and right of frames, inlaid with glass hat opens down the middle and usually opens outward since they are commonly seen as doorways that open out to patios or porches.
The traditional French door was assembled using multiple little glass windows or mullions that were framed off by a decorative grille.
These doors were also called the true divided lite (or Sic) French doors. Today however French doors are made of one length of double sided glass for insulation purposes and are sectioned off or divided by the grille.
French doors offer everything that other doors offer such as ventilation, insulation and safety since many of them come fitted with locks and optional safety systems such as the center-activated flush bolt system for added security.
And they offer all the aesthetic value that any home and home décor could require. The French door, because it is inlaid with glass panes or 'lights' are great types of doors for sitting rooms and living rooms that open into an out door area since they allow a great deal of light to enter the room and creates a nice prequel ambiance to the natural setting outside.
It is perhaps for this reason that the French door has gained such popularity with homeowners, architects, designers and interior decorators alike.
The idea of an elegantly designed glass door as the French door is has been a particular object of interest to interior decorators since in and of it self these doors are a home accent.
The safety and security of the door has never really come under any scrutiny because its design has facilitated the safety and security of regular doors from the onset of its inception into the home.
They are particularly reinforced and while the glass panes can break, they are usually strong enough to hold up under very harsh circumstances. By far the vast appeal of the French door is its aesthetic value and with good reason too.
These doors require little to make them look good even if you're standing from the inside of your home or from the outside. Moreover these doors are easy to maintain and keep clean, and the frames of French doors can come in any colour paint that can be made since the steel is usually painted to prevent rusting.
But it is the paint that adds a touch of wonder to the décor, especially from the outside of the house.
