Here are some tips on excess grout removal. You will need some oak wood sticks, a few scouring pads and lot of clean water.
Step 1: Pour some water on the tile as the water will acts as a lubricant and will help prevent micro scratches on the glazed tiles surface. Start removing the large clumps of grout by using the oak wood stick, to dig them out and be sure to apply lots of pressure for immediate results. Do not use any metal scraping tools such as putty knives, as they will permanently damage the glazed surface of the tile. Once all the large pieces of grout are removed rinse off all the remaining grout particles from the surface of the tile.
Step 2: Add some more water to the surface of the tile and using the nylon scouring pad start to scour the tile surface adding plenty of fresh water as you scrub. At this point you should be seeing some results. Test to see if the grout paste has been removed from the tiles you were just working on by rinsing it lightly with water and then dry it with a soft towel, this is necessary as sometimes wet tiles can look perfect but when it dries you will notice a slight grout haze on it.
Step 3: Probably the hardest part of the job is to restore the grout line between the tiles. Use some coarse sand paper and slightly round off a corner of one of the oak sticks, then start pushing and pulling the stick back and fort along the grout lines, to cut a profile similar to what a special grout sponge would have done, and remember to add some water to the grout to keep it moist. At this point you should see some definite results. If you feel that the grout is still present after all that hard work then you can proceed to the final Step which is known to have positive results.
Step 4: Mix a gallon of water with some sugar and let it dissolve properly. Pour the solution onto any excess grout on the floor, and for those wall tiles with excess grout, just soak some paper towels in the solution you just mixed and place them on the tiles. Keep the tiles wet by continuing to add more of the solution every two hours or so, and after the tiles have been soaked for a relatively good amount of time use a nylon scrub pad and scrub small areas of the tile. This should bring immediate results although it might take quite a few applications of sugar water to completely remove all the grout film. |
