For drilling holes in ceramic tiles you will need a good power drill and some drill bits. Now not all drill bits are able to drill through ceramic tiles, so you will need specially designed drill bits to get the job done.
Some people would swear that carbide drill bits are the ideal drill bit for drilling holes in ceramic tiles while others would vow that the best type of of drill bits are those that are specifically designed for the sole purpose of drilling holes in ceramic tiles.
On the other hand companies such as Diamond boasts that their drill bits work better than most carbide tipped drill bits and other similar drill bits.
Diamond promises that their drill bits are designed to drill holes into some of the hardest materials that other drill bits are unable to, including procelain tiles and fiberglass, which are very hard types of material.
Because diamond drill bits are quite expensive maybe you would rather go with the old carbide drill bit. It is very simple to use, you just put some adhesive tape such as masking tape at the back of the tile to prevent the drill bit from slipping and cracking the tile.
Be sure to place the masking tape in a criss cross position so that one overlaps the other but meets in the center to form a cross. Then you simply insert your drill bit into your power drill and using light pressure begin drilling your hole.
Make sure the hole goes right through the tile into the backer board and when you are almost finished drilling your hole lessen the pressure on the drill some more so that you will get a clean hole right through your ceramic tile. |
