How To Decorate a Teenage Girl's Bedroom

Here's what you need to know about decorating a teenage girls bedroom. To every teenage girl, her bedroom is a big deal. It's the place where she's likely to spend a lot of her time and entertain her friends so it's understandable why she would want her bedroom to be decorated nicely.

The problem is that parents don't always know what's going on in their teenage daughter head so when it's time to decorate her room, mom and dad often stand the chance of hitting, or missing.

The first thing to bear in mind is what the teenage girl likes, and not what you like for her, since many times what she likes and what you want her to like can be two very different things.

For instance, if your teenage girl likes a lot of black and loves to listen to emo, then it's probably best that you don't decorate her bedroom with candy pink walls and bed spreads that glitter.

Another important factor in bear in mind when decorating is age appropriateness. Every parent would love for their little teenage girl to be 3 years old forever, but the truth is that your teenage daughter will hit her teen years even if you buy Cinderella wall paper and carriage shaped bed for her room.

In the same way, it's not the greatest idea to head out and buy antique chests of drawers and a brass bed for a thirteen year old either.

Find out what she likes and then strike an objective balance between what she likes and what is appropriate for her.

Always remember that just as your teenage girl was once a baby who is constantly growing, her likes and dislikes will constantly be changing too, and with every new milestone age she'll probably want to change up her room every once in a while, which is why it is advisable that bedroom designs and furnishings be versatile enough to accommodate these changes.

It is her space after all. Apart from the do's and don'ts of decorating your teenage girls bedroom, some general tips are as follows; the less major pieces of furniture works out for the better in the long run.

A closet, a bed, a vanity set and perhaps a night stand or even a study desk depending on space gives the room a nice complete feeling and still gives her enough space to add the teenage necessities and accessories or whatever is popular at the time such as blow-up or beanbag chairs, lava lamps and posters of boy bands.

Also leave a lot of wall room for her to add her own decorations and sense of self to the room. And it is always a wise idea to choose an interior décor theme with the help of your teenage girl before undertaking any task of this magnitude as this will save you many trips to return items, accessories and furniture that was bought and then disliked, so needed to be returned.

Your little girl is only a teenager once, and life is already so confusing and messy at that age. Her bedroom is her sanctuary so help her make it special.
