Every good closet has a better closet door simply because it helps to keep things inside the closet and of the floor and it helps to keep the contents out of sight. Because home closets tend to differ in style and overall décor and because people tend to differ in personal preference there are many different types of closet doors available on the market today.
Flush doors are perhaps the most common type of door found in home closets, especially linen closets and large storage closets since it is a highly functional but yet elegantly simple type of closet door.
This type of door is structured over a very light frame made of timber using MDF or plywood and allows for a finish that is both very smooth and panneled. Generally the inside of the door which is hollow is filled with a core material made of cardboard or any other similar soft material.
Flush doors are usually used in children's bedrooms and for most interior door positions simply because it is possible to create a more sturdy version of these doors. However it is generally for this reason that many people choose to use them on large linen closets and many walk-in closets.
Fold doors are also a very popular choice for those who are constrained by space. These doors are mounted on tracks and fold into itself rather than swinging open.
Another variation of the fold door is the bi fold door. This door is made with two to four sections enabling it to be folded in pairs. The way it is designed allows it to open on either side using one pair or it can fold on both sides to create 2 pairs.
Yet another type of closet door is the bypass door. This type of door is a unit made up of two or more sections which ensures the panels can easily slide past each other from a track running overhead in both directions. Naturally they are perfect to be used as closet doors since you can access the closet from both sides simultaneously.
Also you will find bypass doors will usually have a slight overlap to avoid having a gap appearing between the doors.
Many closet doors run on tracks as they are very space efficient so doors like pocket doors and sliding glass doors can also be used on closets although they are slightly less common.
But perhaps the most commom type of closet door, especially with wardrobes and linen closets that tend to get a stale musty scent without proper ventilation is the shutter or louver door.
These are mostly weak structures and are used where secruity or safety are not much of an issue.
They are the perfect type of closet door for closets that are used for storing clothes for a long period of time simply because they are not air tight enough to allow the closet to 'breathe'.
