Need Help In Cleaning The Shingles?

Cleaning Shingles: Oxygen bleach is considered by many building contractors as well as homeowners as one of the safest products that work very effectively for cleaning shingles of algae, mildew or moss.

It is supposed to be environmental friendly so it will not kill your plants when you wash it off of the roof and it is also harmless to animals and humans.

When mixed with water, Oxygen bleach consists of materials that are designed to release a type of oxygen that is supposed to clean and bleach stains and dirt from your roof, clothes, decks, carpets and other hard surfaces.

The three different types of oxygen bleach that are available are; hydrogen peroxide, which is in liquid form; sodium per-carbonate and sodium per-borate which are in powder form

Sodium Percarbonate is often found in laundry detergent products and is used to clean such things as decks, carpets and laundry. Sodium Perborate is used in automatic dishwashing and other laundry products as a hot water bleaching agent.

Hydrogen peroxide is used to treat natural soda ash or natural borax in order to produce powdered bleaches. The Oxygen is released when these materials are dissolved in water and they are quite capable of absorbing the oxygen while still remaining free flowing solids.

These oxygen bleach products are said to be totally safe on colored clothes and are very environmental friendly because they do not contain any sort of toxic or hazardous materials.

When cleaning shingles from algae and mildew you will first have to do a general clean up on your roof in order to remove all dead leaves, twigs and other debris that have accumulated.

After all the heavy debris have been removed you will then have to mix the oxygen bleach in water according to the manufacturer's instructions then spray it on the roof and let it stand for about half an hour, then brush it very slightly with a brush, but be very careful as hard scrubbing can damage the shingles.

Rinse it off with a normal garden hose, but again do not turn on all the water pressure as you do not want to damage the shingles.
