Repairing a chipped tile can be a tricky job, sometimes it is so difficult to accomplish that you would be better of replacing the chipped tile outright.
Depending on where the tile is chipped you might be able to repair it using some paint which you will have to mix so that it matches the color of your tiles and some adhesive. But this can be a very touchy job so you should proceed with caution.
You will have to mix the paint to match your original tile to perfection, as the slightest difference in color would affect the overall look of your tile installation.
Perhaps you have some extra tiles laying around the house from when you first installed your tiles. Depending on where the chip in the tile is for instance if it is at the edge of the tile, well you can always cut away at the damaged edge of the tile and cut out a piece from that extra tile to match the portion of tile that you cut off and use an adhesive to join the pieces of tile together.
Most damaged and chips tiles are better off being replaced. Because this can be a very tricky procedure you have to be very careful when removing a single tile so that it does not affect the other tiles, you should call in a professional tile repair person to do the job for you.
This makes the most sense as this person will be trained and knowledgeable in the procedure of removing and replacing a single tile. When removing a single tile there is always the possibility that the surrounding tiles might become slack so that is why a professional would be the best person to perform this task.
If you feel that you are up to the task yourself, you should start by removing the grout around the tile that you are going to replace. After the tile has been removed you will have to clean the space that the tile was in removing any old adhesive and any excess grout before you can reinstall your new tile.
Ensure that the area is clean from all dust and dirt and then place some adhesive on the area and press your single tile firmly into place.
After allowing enough time for your tile to set you can replace your new grout and after it is fully dried you will have to seal it with a sealer to prevent water from entering your grout line and also prevent the grout from getting stained. |
