Installing ceramic wall tiles is not a very difficult task but there are some things that you should know before your begin.
1. Choosing your tile: You must choose tiles to match the overall décor of the room that you are going to be placing the tiles. For example if it's the bathroom then you will have to choose tiles to match the scheme of your existing bathroom. Unless you are going to be doing over the entire bathroom and are intending to change your bathtub, sink etc, then you can choose whatever color scheme your heart desires.
2. Placing your Order: When ordering your tiles you will first need to determine how many tiles you will need. To accomplish this you will have to measure the length and with of the wall and depending on the size of the tiles you will be able to calculate how many tiles you will need.
When placing your order remember to add a few extra tiles as you must make allowances in case of cracks or possible incorrect cuts, you should also place your order for your grout at the same time so that all your materials will arrive at once.
3. Choosing grout color: Depending on your color scheme if you want your grout to stand out you can order colored grout, but if you want a natural effect then you can order plain grout which will blend nicely with the color of your tiles. Just a note here you will have to order non sanded grout when installing wall tiles.
4. Tools Preparation: Be sure and have all tools handy before you begin to work, you don't want to start installing your tiles only to find that you do not have any putty, or caulk or some other item that is necessary for you to install your wall tiles. If you need to use a diamond wet tile ceramic tile cutter you can rent one for a reasonable price, there are lots of places that rent these wet tile saws.
5. Starting to tile: Now that all your materials have arrived and you have done a check to make sure that you have everything necessary you can begin your ceramic wall tile installation.
One more thing before you begin make sure that you have enough time to handle this project, do not start your tile installation if you know that you have an appointment in two hours, you should set aside a day when you know that you can devote your time to this project without any disturbances.
6. Prepare the wall: All tiles whether they are ceramic floor tiles or ceramic wall tiles need to be installed on a clean even surface. So make sure your wall is clean and free from dirt and dust, and if there are any bumps or sinks in the wall you might want to use some putty to fill in these flaws before you begin.
An uneven wall can cause the tiles to shift and crack so it is imperative that the wall is even and smooth. If it is necessary for you to fill in your wall with putty then ensure that you give it enough time to dry before you begin your ceramic wall tile installation.
