How You Can Install Ceramic Tile On Laminate

Ceramic tile on laminate: is it even possible that you can actually install ceramic tile over laminate. Well dear friends the answer to that question is that you can install ceramic tile on almost any type of surface as long as it is flat, clean and even.

The secret to getting a sturdy installation when you are installing ceramic tiles on laminate is to install a cement backer board and then install your ceramic tiles onto the backer board.

This is the simplest and most sensible way to go, because if you install the ceramic tile directly onto the laminate there is the possibility that it might shift after a period of time, causing your tiles to loosen and even crack.

To begin installing your ceramic tile you will have to first check the laminate to see if there are any cracks or spaces that need fixing.

The laminate has to be free from any type of defects, so if you should notice that there is a big chunk of laminate missing then it would be a good idea to remove the entire thing and replace it.

Assuming that your laminate is in perfect condition you can begin by cleaning off the surface and making sure that it is free from all dust and dirt and that it is properly dried.

Next step is mixing some thinset or some other type of adhesive and spreading it onto the laminate surface and then place your backer board directly onto the laminate and use some nails or screws to secure it in place.

The idea here is to bond the laminate with the backer board so that they form one sturdy surface. Allow the adhesive to dry properly before you go any further.

Now you want to start laying your tiles, again using the proper adhesive such as thinset or mastic, you simply place the adhesive onto the clean surface and press firmly so that the tile will be able to bond to the backer board.

Please remember to leave grout lines between your tiles, you can use spacers to ensure that these lines are straight.

After all your tiles have been set in place and have been allowed to dry properly, it is now time to start filling in those grout lines.

Be sure and get as much grout as you can deep down into the grout lines so that they will fill in nicely and the tiles will not be able to get loose.

After you have installed the grout, wipe away any excess grout and let the grout harden properly before you install a sealant to seal the grout so that water does not seep through the grout lines.
