There are many carpet cleaning products that you can purchase to clean your carpet, some are them are in liquid form and some are in powder or steam solutions. After doing some research on cleaning carpets, it would be safe to say that the most recommend type of solution to get the job done would be either a dry solution or a steam solution.
First off you should maintain your carpet by keeping it as clean as possible, with regular vacuuming and shampooing maybe once a month. A little baking soda sprinkled at the edges of the carpet can have your carpet smelling fresh all the time, as baking soda is known to eliminate odors.
Sweep or vacuum your carpet with a dry vacuum to remove all the excess dirt before you use a wet/dry cleaning solution to clean your carpet. Another good old fashion recipe for carpet cleaning t is vinegar as vinegar is known to remove all residue build up of old shampoo. You simply use a wet dry vacuum and mix some vinegar in with the water and then vacuum the carpet.
After vacuuming with the vinegar you will have to vacuum again using hot water which will activate the excess shampoo already in the carpet leaving it looking clean once again. If you practice this procedure at least twice a month pretty soon you will find that your carpets will feel and look much softer and fluffier once again.
When you vacuum your carpet using the "steam cleaning" method it is a good way for the carpet to be deep cleaned as the solution of water and detergent are sprayed into the carpet pile, and then it is sucked out using a very heady duty vacuum which will remove all the water and soil build up from the carpet.
Bear in mind that you should use carpet cleaning detergents that are designed for your particular type of carpet and also it must be strong enough to remove the dirt without have to douse the whole carpet down with lots of water, as too much water may cause your carpet to shrink and then you would definitely have bigger problems than a clean carpet.
