Prepare Yourself Before A Backer Board Installation

Before you begin to install your backer board you must first prepare your floor for the installation. Make sure that the sub-floor is level and solid, check all joist joints to make sure they are securely fastened and do all that is necessary to ensure that the foundation is solid and stable.

Remove all excess dirt and dust and vacuum if necessary, as with all floor installations they must be as level and as clean as possible.

If you are going to be doing a new floor installation you will need to remove all fixtures from the room you are going to be working in so that you will have a free and unobstructed place to work.

You will definitely have to use cement backer board to install your ceramic tile floor as it is highly impossible to install tiles on bare wood surfaces as they will certainly begin to crack and loosen in a short space of time as soon as you begin to walk on them.

You will have to measure the area of the floor that is to be tiled in order to determine just how much backer board you will need and also the correct size that you will have to cut.

Bear in mind that backer board is a very coarse material, so you should always tape up the edges and seams to prevent them from making holes in your waterproof membrane and also to have the tile fit smoothly onto the backer board when you start your ceramic tile installation.

Also backer board comes in different sizes and thickness so be sure and choose the correct size in order to prevent your floor installation from being higher that it should. The floor installation must be made to the correct size so that the door of the room will be able to open and close freely.

There are many different types of backer board so before you go out and purchase the first one that you see you should check to get all the information that you can about the various types of backer board.

This will help you understand what a backer board entails so you will have an idea of which one would be best suited for your particular project.

The most highly recommended backer board is Cement backer board, as these are ideal for when performing ceramic floor tile installation in bathrooms and kitchens and they are also highly recommended for installing tiles on walls.
