Choose the Right Size for Your Air Condition

Air condition sizes are made in a wide range of capacities, ranging anywhere from one ton to seven tons, often in half ton increments.

Choosing the right size air condition unit for your home depends on a variety of different things, such as the type of materials your home is built with, the height and overall thickness and insulation of your ceiling and walls, the amount of rooms, doors, windows and the exact size of the rooms.

Also to consider is whether you have a split level home or a single story home, how many people occupy the home, all these have to be considered before you can get an idea of exactly what size air condition unit would be right for your particular needs.

Also you will have to decide whether you want to install a single air condition in each room or would you prefer to have central air conditioning.

Room air condition units are exactly as the name implies they are used to cool a single room and are usually placed in the wall or window of the room.

These room air condition units cost much less to run than a Central air condition unit and they are usually plugged into a regular wall circuit in your home, but on the downside their energy efficiency level is much lower than a Central air condition unit.

Central air condition units on the other hand are capable of cooling an entire home, as the air is circulated through special ducts (supply ducts and return ducts) which are placed at various parts of the house. The two basic types of central air condition units are split systems and packaged systems.

Because there are quite a variety of air conditioners available such as single window /wall air condition units, central air condition units etc, it is important that you know which is the right one for your home, and in order to determine this you should hire a qualified air condition technician to come in and give you an estimate.

This person will be able to supply you with all the information that you should know about air condition sizes which by the way are measured in tons and they often refer to the (BTU) which is basically the term used for describing the energy efficiency of the air condition unit, which refers to the amount of heat that the air condition can remove by the hour.

To simplify things a bit if you were to purchase a too small an air condition unit it will not be able to properly cool your house because it will not have the horse power so to speak to remove all the heat and humidity from the home.

The same can be said if you were to purchase too big an air condition unit, it will automatically shut itself off when it reaches a certain temperature before it has time to remove all the heat and humidity in your home.

In addition, with this frequent on/off cycle you will use up more electricity making the unit less energy efficient not to mention costing you more money to run the unit.

Furthermore this can also lead to wear and tear of the compressor and other parts of your air condition unit So with all of that said it is imperative that you get the right size energy efficient air condition unit that will best suit your home.
