A Few Words About Adjustable Beds

Adjustable beds are basically beds, or bed frames rather that are built with various angled points (depending on how 'adjustable' the type of bed is) so that the bed can be altered from a flat laying position to various degrees of a sitting up position.

These types of adjustable beds were first used in hospitals and for various medical purposes before they were found in homes and all over the market.

They were useful as medical tools especially for elderly people who had problems laying down and sitting up, and became increasingly useful for people with muscular-skeletal problems and this led to the eventual appearance of adjustable beds in the average home since many an average person tended to suffer from back and neck pains and other sleep-related problems.

What started out as a simple medical tool is perhaps one of the greatest tools to mankind as a whole.

From the earliest variation of the adjustable bed, which was a simple 90 degree angled frame that was manually hoisted by a turning wheel to any angle between 90 and 180 degrees, it's truly impressive today to see the way technological advances have enriched the lives of millions of people, taking this simple idea of an adjustable bed and transforming it into an entire sleep system.

Most types of adjustable beds on the market today are electronically powered by very quiet motors and usually give less stark angles for a more seamless flow. Moreover these beds can do anything from give a message to keep the bed lined up with side tables when raised, and many come with a back up power supply or a way to get the bed back to a flat position in the case of a power failure.

Moreover these adjustable beds come in all the sizes regular beds do and there is a design for every décor and individual need which is particularly great for those who share a bed like couples since many adjustable beds today allow you to adjust the firmness or softness of your side, rather than the entire bed.

And lastly, with all the great innovations on the market where mattresses are concerned, adjustable beds are only more miraculous. Now while any and every mattress wouldn't work on an adjustable for the sole fact that many mattresses would not be able to stand up to all the bending of adjustable beds, there are still many great options.

From the enhanced coil spring mattresses, to latex foam and even air mattresses, it really is not difficult finding the right mattress to compliment your adjustable bed.

But since its development in the 1970's, by far the most popular choice of mattress has been memory foam mattresses and Tempurpedic mattresses because they offer a great deal of additional support and comfort. They are usually the best choice for any bed but the absolute perfect choice for modern adjustable beds.
